Television Show Review: Fringe

Very minor spoilers: first episode or so

Fringe is a science-fiction show that started in 2008, created by J.J. Abrams, among others. This name may be familiar to those of you who were a fan of the series Lost, which ended in 2010. J.J. Abrams has created other shows and movies such as Alias, Star Trek (2009) and Cloverfield.

The show takes place in Boston, Massachusetts, following the cases of the Fringe Division, a division of the FBI dedicated to solving crimes that, as the name implies, are scientific with dubious scientific procedures.

The main character is Olivia Dunham, who, after her lover dies, joins the Fringe Division. She is assisted by Peter Bishop, a civilian consultant for the Fringe Division, and former con-man. He is also the guardian of his father, Walter Bishop. Walter Bishop is a "mad scientist" who, while being eccentric at times, is always a big help to the Fringe Division whenever there is a new case.

I feel reluctant to say a lot about this show, since it's fairly new, and it would just be awful for me to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, or is watching it right now. The show is at its 3rd season, and the plot is already very intricately woven. I will make posts per season finale, summarizing and giving my opinion about the whole season, most likely when season 3 ends.

  6. Might make a post about the first season in the next week or so.

schultzz: This is more sci-fi than FBI, the FBI thing is more of a plothole so the main characters have a reason to investigate. Trust me, it doesn't have a lot to do with the FBI.

Silent Crawler, J: You can always watch it on stream, or purchase the DVD set.

  14. I do like Fringe, the story starts to get pretty interesting, until it gets in the later seasons and the 2 stories start happening.. That's what it gets monotonous, and it just seems like they are dragging the series out with fillers.

  15. I loved this show - althought, when the whole second dimension plot line came in, it started getting pretty dry.
